Cold front in Florida?!

Ohhh, It’s that time of the year when Florida decides to get hit with random cold fronts. At first it’s all fun and games. BUT when the cold fronts decide to last a whole week, that’s the issue. WHAT ARE WE TO WEAR?! We’ve already experienced one, and now to tackle another one. Well, fear not mis amigas y amigos, I got you covered with a quick guideline on how to handle very bi-polar weather changes. But first, I leave you with this classic meme…

Personally, I have a couple of staple pieces that I run to when the weather hits 60 degrees (yea, i know dramatic). But nonetheless, it gets a little tricky when you’re use to sunshine and the sun-kissed heat. The hardest part about living in warm weather climate is that when it gets cold, you don’t have much you can throw on, and the problematic part is when you wake up to cool weather only to be hit with blistering heat in the afternoon. There is no in between. So with that being said, this one goes out to all my Floridians, who still have no idea what a “real winter” entails and need quick tips on how to stay warm during these frigid cold days.

Let’s start with the basics, you are going to need layers. They’re easy to add-on and most importantly, easy to take off when it starts sizzling in the afternoons. Here are three basic pieces that can aid you in staying warm these cold, brutal “Florida” days.

Your basis should be: outerwear.

  • A jean jacket is something that you probably have in your closet already. An easy pairing with a sweater and you’re all set!
Gap Women 1969 Embroidered Denim Jacket

  • A light coat for those who are really feeling the burrr, grab a light cotton coat and pair it with a sweater and trust me you’ll be just fine, or even grab a duster, one of my go to’s.
Lower Eastside Grey Plus Size Bouclé wool coat

  • Lastly, a leather jacket would be perfect to throw on and create an edgy vibe. With so many colors to now choose from, you can now choose other colors than black.

Next… a scarf. Uhm hello, one of the easiest things to throw on when you want to keep warm and super easy to store when you no longer have use for it. There are tons of scarfs to choose from, cowl neck, infinity, and there are also many ways to wear them. With so many variety to choose from its easy to create a minimal outfit and tie it all in with the help of a patterned scarf.

Don’t be afraid to grab a novelty scarf with a fun pattern either!

Followed with a beanie, or a hat! A fun way to accessorize your outfits, and adds a finishing touch. From wool hats, to newsboy caps, and the occasional beret.

How to Style Sneakers with a Charm

Mixing sneakers with my daily looks is my go to when feeling hella trendy. Since my high school days, I loved getting a fresh new pair of sneakers and from that point on, I pretty much incorporated them with all my looks. So yes, sneakers can go with everything! Rocking sneakers to any occasion has become much more acceptable so I’ve thrown the heels on the bench. So let our little fashion hearts rejoice for those high school memories, for our aching feet, and most importantly for fashion baby.

There are about 101 ways to keep a girly vibe while rocking sneakers.

Being the minimalist that I am, I like to stick with:

  1. Neutrals – When paring a pair of sneakers try to stick with neutrals such as white, beige, black and grey. You’ll find the result to be a monochromatic look that you probable didn’t have to throw much work into! And you’ll look effortlessly chic, while keeping a sporty vibe.

nuetrals2. A minimal pattern – Go for a top that has a simple pattern. Ex. Stripes, polka dots, or anything that can be paired with blue jeans to set the look. If you chose to go for a colorful top with details, opt for a classic white sneaker to anchor your outfit.

minimal3. Matching! – My favorite to tip, because it’s one of the ones I use the most. Chose either the bottoms, or top and match it with at least two colors of your shoes! SIMPLE and creates a stellar look with colors that ping off of each other. But don’t worry about being too matchy matchy, and focus more on coordination of the colors.

These are three of the easiest guidelines to stick with when pairing up a pair of sneaks to your everyday attire. I’m sure you’ve already seen every fashion babe rocking a pair of kicks with their looks. Don’t get left behind in this comfort wave that we should all be riding.

I basically incorporated all those 3 tips into one, and see … I don’t look crazy, success! The colors are all neutrals that are always easy to paired with, my top is patterned and for added charm, bell sleeves and last but not least my color combo between the shoes and the top.

Now lets get to the base of this post, the sneaker.

The Nike Cortez is one of my top 5 favorite sneakers. The Cortez first debuted in 1972 as a running sneaker, fun fact it was actually considered the first official track shoe that was designed by Bill Bowerman, an Olympic track coach and of course founder of Nike. It’s recently been making waves again in the sneaker community with its classic silhouette and effortless steez. Plus, it’s hella cozy and feels light and girly.

Try going for this look with help from these easy tips to follow!

Fun & Flirty!

Picking out an outfit is already hard enough, factor in a date and its nearly impossible! Sometimes, I get so stumped on what to wear, and my room suddenly looks like it’s been hit by a hurricane, hurricane Kim. Clothes are scattered all over the place and I end up feeling like “I have nothing to wear”. Well that’s how I felt this past weekend. Anyways, I’m here to share a few pointers on how to find the perfect going out outfit. There are some basic rules I like to keep in mind before I destroy my closet.

  1. Dress Accordingly

Find out where you’re going, and what activities are going down. You don’t want to be that chick that overdresses or underdresses to an event. It’s better to be informed and prepared.

  1. Check the Weather

Probably a crucial one. Nothing worse than being hot, cold or getting rained on. Some key items I tend to always have with me are a jacket (which you’re mom has already told you a million times to bring) and an umbrella (especially in Florida)!

  1. Simple is sometimes better.

Stop overthinking an outfit. Going out and wanting to look your best are top priorities BUT it’s easy to end up in a rut after going rummaging through outfits. At times simplicity can be the answer in styling a look. A classic white tee, and jeans are an easy go to. But for a more flirty vibe, I would opt out for a flowy dress.

But most importantly….

There’s no point in going through all these steps if in the end you don’t feel like yourself, you don’t feel comfortable, and you don’t feel confident. Because ultimately you wear the clothes, the clothes don’t wear you! Feeling at ease should be a constant principal to keep in mind.

With that being said, let me break down my perfect feel good going out ensemble!

I took a trip to Wynwood, which is a little neighborhood in Miami with dope spots to drink, eat and shop. I already knew I was going to be outside for majority of the day. Which living in Florida only means one thing, I was going to be HOT as hell! I usually always wear shorts, but on this day I preferred a more fun and flirty look, anddddd I wanted to bust out this Isabel Marant dress I’ve never worn. The pattern made the dress effortless to throw on with minimal accessorizing. The fabric was whimsical, light and most importantly breezy (so I wasn’t TOO hot).

Being that the dress already had a busy pattern I picked a shoe that would draw out a color and stand out while still staying pretty neutral. A strappy sandal was the perfect match, the heel wasn’t too high and I felt completely confident strutting down the streets.

Lets talk about the handbag though. This little gem (no literally, it has gems on it) was the icing on the cake. The Valentino Embellished Camera bag is my idea of treasure. The perfect sized bag for a day out, not too little, not too big. With its array of different colored studs, I find it to be a statement piece and the tan color easily pairs well with most outfits.

Track to Trend

Trends tend to come and go, and there’s always too many to keep up with. But, a trend that has come, and continues to be inspiration is “atleisure” (casual, comfortable clothing designed to be suitable both for exercise and everyday wear). However track pants have fallen in and out of fashion, from the 80’s when Run DMC sported the look to the early 2000’s when Madonna made the Juicy Couture tracksuit hot, and of course now we have Kylie dripping in Puma. I mean who wouldn’t want to feel at ease while tackling their day. From the gym to the streets, and sometimes even the office wearing your athletic gear is now acceptable in most all settings. I wanted to give this look a go with my new Nike track pants! I took a visit to the Perez Art Museum Miami where you get to experience contemporary art with a sick view to go along with it. Located along Biscayne Blvd. you get the beauty of Miami, both alluring and charming. Every second Saturday of the month they have free admission, so make a day out of it and even visit Museum Park located right next it!

There are many directions to take with the styling on track pants. Make them ultra feminine with lingerie and a sleek pair of heels for a girl’s night out. Or try a badass edgy look with a white tank and a leather jacket. Another option is to go classic, meaning sporty. Stick to the roots of this look and edit it to make it your own! Which in this case is precisely what I was aiming for.

Function and fashion are two things I always aim for. Which is why I decided to keep it casual and add a light and airy graphic tee from Rag & Bone.

Mixing high and low fashion is also a basic rule I like to abide by. By throwing on my Saint Laurent sneakers it elevated the look from track to trend! No heels, no sandals, just straight comfort. Yes, I said it COMFORT!

Vampierella x Supreme

Supreme seems to be the hottest thing on the map right now, especially after the Louis Vuitton collaboration. Therefore I decided to share one of my “hybebae” purchases, the Vampierella tee. Vampierella was a comic book character that first made her steamy debut in a black and white comic book by Forrest J Ackerman and artist Tina Robbins in 1969. With little left to the imagination and a blood sucking thirst to go with it, she made for a kick ass character. So yes, I do feel pretty cool in this tee.

Red tends to look good on my skin tone annnnd it was the only color left so I went for it. Paired with a loose-fitting cargo to emphasize on the tomboy vibes, I felt extremely at ease.

How to Sport Stripes

Processed with Rookie Cam

Majority of our lives, women have feared the dreadful horizontal stripes. We’re constantly told to not wear them because they appear to make you look larger than you are. Striped shirts have been a staple in women’s fashion for quite some time now, it’s origins however come from somewhere least expected; Fisherman residing in the northwest region of France! One of the reasons for the stripes comes from fisherman believing it would aid them in spotting men who had gone overboard. In 1858, the French Navy adopted this nautical theme as their official uniform. The great Coco Chanel later embraced this staple piece featuring the pattern in 1917, which ultimately led to an infinite amount of ways that these sailor stripes could be worn, and behold the fluidity and simplicity that are stripes.

Styling this trend is simple and doesn’t require much and there’s no need to feel self-conscious of rocking this look out. I chose my favorite tee from J-Crew (that I cant stop wearing) as my go to statement staple. It’s lightweight, funky and I’m obsessed with the checkered sleeves! The tee already has enough presence, which makes it a piece of cake to style with some boyfriend shorts.

Mules seem to have made it big, and are my go to on how to make an outfit look cool while still looking at ease. Paired with my navy blue Balenciaga bag and I’m ready to set sail!
